Walter: I work at, uh, NGA, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Obama: Outstanding, how long you been doing that? Walter: About six years Obama: Yea? Walter: Yes. Obama: You like it? Walter: I do, keeps me... Obama: So explain to me exactly what this National Geospatial...uh... Walter: Uh, we work with, uh, satellite imagery.. According to the Defense Department: The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) is a Department of Defense combat support agency and a member of the national Intelligence Community (IC). NGA develops imagery and map-based intelligence solutions for U.S. national defense, homeland security and safety of navigation. NGA provides timely, relevant and accurate geospatial intelligence in support of national security objectives. The term "geospatial intelligence" means the exploitation and analysis of imagery and geospatial information to describe, assess and visually depict physical features and geographically referenced activities on the Earth. Geospatial intelligence consists of imagery, imagery intelligence and geospatial (e.g., mapping, charting and geodesy) information. Guess they're not getting much airtime in the president's Daily Brief.

By now, you've probably heard of the Waxman-Markey bill, technically called the "American Clean Energy and Security Act," H. R. 2454. You've heard several sources, including this newsletter, rant on how terrible/hazardous/unnecessary the 946 page piece of prospective legislation is. But I've never seen the disastrous consequences of this legislation outlines so clearly and thoroughly as in this article by Myron Ebell, succinctly titled, "The Biggest Tax Increase in World History."

If enacted, H. R. 2454 would be the biggest government takeover of the economy since the Second World War, which is the last time energy, food, and other basic commodities were rationed. It would also be the biggest tax increase in the history of the world and would cause a colossal transfer of wealth from consumers to big businesses.

The ostensible purpose of Waxman-Markey is to contain global warming by reducing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions. The cap-and-trade scheme at the heart of the bill would do this by limiting severely the amount of energy derived from the three carbon-dioxide producing fuels -- coal, oil, and natural gas -- Americans would be allowed to use. Currently, over 80% of U. S. energy comes from these three fuels simply because they are the least expensive fuels available. Waxman-Markey would require cutting emissions by 17 percent below a 2005 baseline by 2020, 42 percent by 2030, and 83 percent by 2050...

How far might energy prices rise under Waxman-Markey? It's hard to tell, but it's clear that committee Democrats think it may require more than doubling electric rates and gasoline above five dollars a gallon. President Obama agrees. When Obama was running for President, he told the San Francisco Chronicle on January 17, 2008, "Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity prices would necessarily skyrocket."

The same week, former president Bill Clinton was in Spain talking about green jobs. What did he say? Planet Gore translates:

Former US President turned ecologist Bill Clinton is aware of the impact on employment by the development on renewable energy. Even though he is, as a former dweller of the White House, one of the most visible supporters in that industry, the US Democrat recognized yesterday that clean energies "have cost many jobs" in Spain.

Though without citing it directly, Clinton was acknowledging yesterday during his conference in Madrid that the study about the impact of public support on renewable energies, released by Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, has very valid conclusions. That report, which has received enormous coverage in US media and been used against Barack Obama's energy policy, argues that every job in renewable energies created in Spain in the year 2000 has cost 571138 Euros and has been the cause of the loss of 2.2 jobs elsewhere in the economy.

Bill Clinton recognized yesterday that "this commitment to clean energy has cost many jobs" while at the same time calling for Spain to intensify investment in this industry to be able to turn high costs into new jobs.

So, the Green Agenda consists of a dramatic rise in unemployment, coupled with the biggest tax increase in world history.

In last week's newsletter, we asked for your stories, good or bad, in switching to the new, CFC-free inhalers. And we got'em. And they weren't good.

Teresa in Texas: "I have two kids that need only occasional puffs on an inhaler. They never had to use the new ones. When I was told I had to take them to the doctor to get a new prescription for the new one instead of just using the old prescription as a refill order, I decided to look for alternatives. I started giving them carrots every day as snacks and crossed our southern border to buy the old style, over the counter, available at any Mexican pharmacy."

Joe in Illinois: "I used CFA inhalers for 20 years. I usually took one or two puffs and I was back to normal. I didn't have to "waste" the medicine due to priming. The new HFA inhalers don't work for me - at all!!! I've tried 3 different kinds of inhalers. I don't have a fast acting inhaler that works for me. I have to suffer through the attack."

Sharon: "Yes, I and several family members have been forced to use the new inhalers and the cost has more than tripled. I say, "forced," because we can't get the old ones anymore and are feeling powerless to do anything about it. My copay is $35 each and my family members' inhalers are over $60 because theirs aren't covered by insurance, putting their total cost at about $195/mo. The inhalers are not as effective as the old ones so we have to use them more often. The nozzle becomes clogged frequently so we have to rinse it off or the inhaler becomes even less effective. As a result, we all have to buy them more often, of course. I am angry and frustrated about the inferior quality & increased cost."

Sherron: "The change has had a definite adverse effect on me and Medicare now has these Albuterol Inhalers on Tier 2 and 3. The cost escalated from $7 to 43.00 each. There is NO Generics available since all the inhalers had to change the propellant. The effectiveness is also diminished as a rescue inhaler for asthmatics. Priming lessens the amount of metered doses and if it runs out, patients cannot refill for another month because the manufacture says it has a months supply on board! Another situation where Government is the Problem."

June: "Yes -- there are two in this household who had to make the change, and both of us found it to be inferior from the get-go! Who, by the way, was supposed to train us on the use of the new inhaler? The insert might as well be printed in Greek."

The New York Times and other Team Obama whitewashers are downplaying the connection between the Obama presidential campaign, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) and Obama's old employer Project Vote (ACORN's nonprofit canvassing arm). Alas, the truth keeps seeping out. At a closed-door powwow hosted Thursday at the left-leaning Center for American Progress, activists discussed how to combat a relentless stream of corruption charges from ACORN/Project Vote whistleblowers. But it's too late for a reputation bailout. Former Project Vote official and whistleblower Anita MonCrief has harnessed the Internet to crowd-source a massive cache of documents showing ties between Obama staff members and the supposedly "nonpartisan" ACORN operations. Last fall, The New York Times abandoned an investigation into whether Obama had shared donor lists with Project Vote, a 501(c)(3) organization that is prohibited from engaging in political activity. Public editor Clark Hoyt earlier this month called it "the tip that didn't pan out." Critics suggested the donor lists could have been compiled through public records. But I have obtained the lists -- not only of Obama donors, but also lists of Democratic National Committee, Hillary Clinton and John Kerry contributors. The records include small donors to the Obama campaign, who are not disclosed in public campaign finance databases. It's information only a campaign could supply. MonCrief testified under oath last fall that her then-boss, Karyn Gillette, gave her the Obama donor list and told her the campaign had furnished it. Moreover, e-mail messages between ACORN, Project Vote and other affiliates, including ACORN subsidiary Citizens Services, Inc. (CSI), make explicit references to working on "Obama campaign related projects." The "list of maxed out Obama donors" is specifically mentioned in staff e-mail. Another message from ACORN/Project Vote official Nathan Henderson-James warns ACORN and affiliated staff to prepare for "conservatives … gearing up a major oppo research project on Obama." Henderson-James wrote, "Understand I'm not suggesting that we gear up to defend a candidate's campaign." But that, of course, is exactly what the ACORN enterprise did. Why does this matter? Transparency, tax dollars and electoral integrity. ACORN's own lawyer Elizabeth Kingsley acknowledged last year that a vast web of tax-exempt ACORN affiliates were shuffling money around -- making it almost impossible to track whether campaign rules and tax regulations were being followed. ACORN receives 40 percent of its revenues from taxpayers. Americans deserve to know whether and how much commingling of public money with political projects has occurred over the last four decades -- and what role the Obama campaign played in this enterprise. Remember: Last August, the Obama team admitted its failure to properly disclose $800,000 in payments to CSI -- which works hand in hand with Project Vote and the ACORN parent organization. Obama mysteriously reclassified the campaign advance work expenditures as "get-out-the-vote" activities. Nary a peep from electoral integrity watchdogs. Despite heated denials from Team Obama, the links between ACORN, Project Vote and CSI are inextricable. As Obama himself reminded ACORN leaders after its political action committee endorsed his presidential candidacy in February 2008: "I come out of a grassroots organizing background. That's what I did for three and half years before I went to law school. That's the reason I moved to Chicago was to organize. So this is something that I know personally, the work you do, the importance of it. I've been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career. Even before I was an elected official, when I ran Project Vote voter registration drive in Illinois, ACORN was smack dab in the middle of it, and we appreciate your work." As I've reported before, the Obama campaign's "Vote for Change" registration drive, run simultaneously with ACORN/Project Vote, was an all-out scramble to scrape up every last unregistered voter sympathetic to Obama's big-government vision. In an e-mail message to whistleblower MonCrief last summer, New York Times reporter Stephanie Strom told the truth: "The real story to all this is how these myriad entities allow them to shuffle money around so much that no one really knows what's getting spent on what." By Oct. 6, 2008, Strom had thrown in the towel in the wake of blistering phone conversations with the Obama campaign. She wrote: "I'm calling a halt to my efforts. I just had two unpleasant calls with the Obama campaign, wherein the spokesman was screaming and yelling and cursing me, calling me a right-wing nut and a conspiracy theorist and everything else. … I'd still like to get that file from you when you have a chance to send it. When the Japanese military invaded Manchuria in the early 1930s, Hitler, Mussolini, and Japan's own government watch nervously to see what the League of Nations and the Western powers would do. Now it is North Korea and Iran who are watching and wondering.

If the United Nations, and the powers it represents, is as impotent as was the League in the 1930s, it will send the same signal to other would-be proliferators: that the rest of the world will sit by and do nothing. By so blatantly flouting international opinion and U.N. resolutions, North Korea has essentially said to the rest of the world: "put up or shut up."

The irony, of course, is that North Korea is probably the single state in the world most vulnerable to international sanctions. It produces no energy of its own. If China chose to bring the country to its knees, it could do so in a heartbeat. But will they?

China is worried about triggering a flood of North Korean refugees across its borders and tends to be protective of its erstwhile ally.

But the real pressure point on China is Japan. If the Japanese signal that they will respond to the North Korean nuclear test with a decision to change its constitution and develop nuclear weapons itself, the impact on both China and North Korea will be intense.

But the most important actor is, of course, President Barack Obama. It is really he who is being tested. If he simply settles for ineffectual sanctions or a round of international condemnation, he will be showing a weakness that virtually invites exploitation by the rest of the world. If he only pursues diplomatic negotiations without economic or military clout behind them, the other aggressors - the latter day Hitlers and Tojos - will draw their own conclusions.

And what will be the tone and the role of the new Secretary of State Hillary Clinton? Peter Rodman, former aide to Kissinger, wrote in his splendid book Presidential Command that the Department of State "...can rarely ever bring itself to admit that diplomacy is not working; in its mind, diplomacy is perpetually deserving of 'one more chance.' Sometimes this seems to degenerate into dialogue for its own sake, without regard to results or strategy or even the leverage that might make dialogue more fruitful."

If Hillary meekly goes along with an Obama policy of accommodation, she will lose forever her ability to portray herself as a national security hawk - a crucial step for any woman running for president.

In Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu will also be watching to see how Obama and Clinton react. He will want to know if there is any starch behind America's demand that Iran stop its own progress toward the bomb. If the Obama Administration folds, he will know that he must depend on his own military to act, even in the face of global anger, since the United States will be paralyzed as long as Obama is at the helm.

Just as the key question for Bush was when would he resort to diplomacy, given his reputation for war? So the real issue with Obama is when will he fight given his penchant for negotiation?

In the case of North Korea, of course, military action is off the table since it already has the bomb. But if the United States stiffens Japanese and Chinese resolve and takes the lead, there is no doubt that economic sanctions - real sanctions which include energy - would bring North Korea to its knees quickly.

The whole wide world is watching.

White House Amnesty Summit to be Held Outside of Public View On June 8, President Barack Obama will meet with Congressional leaders to discuss immigration reform legislation. (Politico, May 20, 2009). In the past, President Obama has supported "comprehensive immigration reform," which has included amnesty for the more than 12 million illegal aliens who are living in the United States. (Luuliyo Online, May 20, 2009). During a meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus this past May, President Obama promised to hold a forum on immigration reform. (WSJ Washington Wire, March 18, 2009). As FAIR previously reported, "according to senior administration officials, Obama will speak publicly about the immigration issue in May." (FAIR's Legislative Update, April 13, 2009). Despite President Obama's statement that "transparency promotes accountability and provides information for citizens about what their Government is doing," and his promise to run a more transparent government, the immigration meeting will not be public. (Obama Transparency Memorandum). Instead, it will be held behind closed doors, outside of the view of the American public which has strongly opposed amnesty in the past. This initial closed-door meeting in June appears to be in lieu of a public forum on the immigration issue. The meeting will take place at the White House and will include "a small bipartisan group of lawmakers from the House and Senate, including party leaders and people who have worked on immigration issues." (Luuliyo). Among the lawmakers invited to the meeting are two Democratic Members of the House of Representatives from California: Zoe Lofgren of San Jose, who chairs the House Immigration Subcommittee, and Xavier Becerra of Los Angeles, who is regarded as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's point person on immigration matters. (KPCC Radio, May 21, 2009). Both Lofgren and Becerra are outspoken supporters of amnesty. (See FAIR's Congressional Voting Report for the 110th Congress). The White House meeting comes at a time when nearly 14 million American workers are out of a job and desperately looking for work. (Luuliyo). The last time that Congress considered amnesty, in June 2007, unemployment stood at 4.6 percent and 7 million Americans were out of work. However, today's unemployment rate stands at 8.9 percent, and 13.7 million Americans are out of work. (See FAIR's Amnesty & Joblessness Report, May 2009). Amnesty would allow the estimated 8.3 million illegal aliens who are in the workforce to keep the jobs they never should have had, instead of freeing those jobs up for the American workers who need them. In addition, amnesty would give those 8.3 million illegal aliens the ability to begin openly competing for other jobs, in a time when America's labor market is already demonstrating a lack of available j
