You have likely heard that “Cap and Trade” legislation is about to make its way through Congress. These measures would set a limit on carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel use. Cap and Trade is a tax on energy, but is worse than other taxes – because rather than taxing energy at a specific rate, the total usage of specific energy sources is cut off and rationed. Businesses will be forced to battle one another for the right to pay the government for “emissions permits.” Companies will have to bid against one another simply to stay in business, and nobody knows exactly how expensive this tax will be until the federal government auctions off its “permits.” If Cap and Trade becomes law, we will all be forced to pay more for anything that’s manufactured, grown, built or shipped. And, the bill’s passage looms as a real threat.
The representatives listed below will be voting on Cap and Trade this week! Please call the members of the subcommittee and tell them you recognize that this bill is a thinly disguised energy tax – tell them we do not want cap and trade enacted in the United States. Please, start making phone calls in an attempt to stop this massive tax increase on energy consumption. This will affect all of us.
